One-day introduction to block printing

An introduction to Bagru and the art of hand block printing, ending with a tote bag, scarf, bandana or rug printed by you.

The day begins with a walk through Bagru’s Fields of Colour, where lengths of hand-printed cloth are spread each morning to dry in the Rajasthan sun.

A multi-generational team of artisans and educators then explains the tools and techniques of block printing, with visits to the block carvers, dyers and printers at work.

Finally you choose a product to print. You are given the time, tools, advice and encouragement to make something of your own.

    Unforgettable block print experience

We learned about the block printing process end-to-end directly from an artisan family that has practiced this art form for hundreds of years. The artisan family was simultaneously fulfilling an order for an international client, so we were also able to see how the craft is being integrated into the global market in an ethical and sustainable way. The generosity of the family to serve us homemade food and share about their lives gave us the warmth of Indian hospitality at its finest.

    A must-do activity

This was one of the best experiences of our trip! Although the block printing was fantastic, the tour of the community made it all the more meaningful. The attentive care and kindness stand as a testament to the family who welcomed us.

A highlight on our trip to India

Studio Bagru was one of the best activities on our two week trip through India. We loved learning about the process of block printing and all the people who work in this trade to create beautiful textiles.

    Textile smorgasbord

I attended the 2 day workshop with 3 friends and had an amazing experience with print masters. We visited several print and dying businesses to see the processes, walked the wonderful fields of colour and printed 3 scarves.

Must do for anyone visiting Jaipur

If you’re in Jaipur for a visit this is a must do for anyone wishing to explore a rather quintessential part of this city. Monika and her team at Studio Bagru were extremely welcoming.
